The program for this project was developed through research in three specific areas: food systemshomelessness and housing. Student teams were tasked with assessing community needs, studying precedents and developing a viable program for each of these key components to the project.

Throughout the semester the housing group has been looking at types of housing projects as precedents to figure out how a housing development can be successfully integrated into the community. It quickly became apparent that creating small scale mixed income developments is the most preferable due to their ability to be self-sufficient while still providing attainable housing.





Mid City Gardens is a mixed income development close to the site that provides attainable housing and market value housing for residents in the area. It has received both praise and criticism from various different entities for its goals and design. Looking to a nearby project has given insight into potential problems and solutions for our own project.  Emphasis on bringing more market rate units and ensuring resident access to amenities has been a large theme of necessities for the project.






FutureBR is the most up to date master planning guide for Baton Rouge. We went through the housing portion of the document and pulled out the relevant information on affordable housing in Baton Rouge.
