Logistics Progress Report 1

As of Tuesday, both the UDC and ADA have been assessed for pertinent restrictions and regulations. We are in the process of creating preliminary versions of the graphics that will be included in our final report. Any information that cannot be represented graphically will be either translated into a chart/table or easily referenced text.

By next week the remaining codes will be assessed and an outline of our final report should be generated. Additionally, Several graphics will be in a legible format which will be completed pending the completion of various maps and other visuals created by the Technical Documentation team.

History Group Weekly Progress

On Monday morning, we met at the site and walked around the neighborhood to observe street activity and speak to willing residents. Because it was Labor Day, we saw a lot of activity and spoke to several people from the community.

A typical shotgun home in the neighborhood. The shaded porch makes hot summer days bearable.

 

The porch, wooden construction, and raised foundation all speak of managing heat in the summer.

 

Some homes appear to be neglected or abandoned. 

New construction in the area indicates that development is both possible and aesthetically pleasing.

 

Brick construction is somewhat uncommon, but this building also appears forgotten.

Funding

The funding group has been researching grant opportunities, their requirements and how they apply to our project.  Also, we have been looking at the option of grants through the LSU College of Art and Design as well as the LSU Student Government. This made us think about creating a Student Organization, and if this will be beneficial regarding grants through LSU.

The funding team has also made a detailed inventory of the materials available both at LSU and SU.

We are looking for possible donators, but before, we would like to work with the Community Engagement group to see what kind of donations we are looking for.

The community engagement group is contacting the local council members for more information about the site and neighborhood leaders. Also we are gathering information from the previous Mid City project in order to make a better survey. Lastly, we are brainstorming more ideas for a public event.

Technical Doc.-Site Visit, Update

The Technical Documentation group visited the site and took general measurements to create a grid in order to measure the surrounding context. Site photographs were taken and added to the dropbox. Maps and graphics are being composed this weekend to present next week about topography, soil context, climate, and a digital 2D model.

Weekly Progress Test Post

This week got off to a great start.  Students have begun research for a new project with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Mid City.  The site is a vacant lot located on the South side of North Boulevard, just East of the new overpass at 17th Street.
