Prompt No.1: Architecture To Me Is...

Architecture to me, is a form of art.  We use our working knowledge of space and form to address the needs of our clients in an aesthetically pleasing way.  Architects must visualize the desires of the project's users and using his/her analytical thinking skills, the designer must interpret those requests visually through graphical expressions (via computer-aided drafting, hand renderings, three-dimensional modeling, other creative mediums, and etc).  It is my opinion that the solution must be visually appealing to the eyes and to the psyche of its user (the occupant) and its beholder (the passer-by).  The 'art' becomes "architecture" when the user is able to physically experience it through the use and manipulation of space, form, materials, lighting & other technological features that are compiled to create a superstructure for various purposes.

Functional architecture must respond and provide solutions to the issues facing its users as well as the community it serves.  Since architecture is semi-permanent, it should contribute to the uplifting and advancement of the neighborhood through re-development initiatives or renovation of existing structures, especially those with historical significance.  The architecture of a community states its heritage, can describe its identity and influence its aspirations for the future.  If architecture will influence the direction of a community, it should also be sustainable so as not to disturb or negatively impact the cultural and natural environment surrounding its existence.
